Awesome Fest is now underway and in progress.

Below is an account of which projects got picked up and are being worked on by whom, as well as a log of what's happening with each.

Defining Civil Discourse

This team will be filming around a dozen interviews covering a wide cross section of people, asking what civil discourse means to them.  The resulting footage will be cut and edited into a 4-6 minute video to serve as a intro to the work of Recipe For Peace Now.

We've got our guidelines and release forms for doing our interview clips, onward we go this week to record ourselves answering the question!

Burien Press Urban Garden

This team will design and build an event space with an edible garden using donated recycled materials from Recology.

The game is to get the materials, source plants from the neighboring community, and have a day or two when building out is done prior to the 26th.

We are meeting on Sunday at 6:30 at the location to start designing and brainstorming.

We met on Sunday evening and prioritized the tasks of leveling the venue area with appropriately draining natural materials and securing the area with a new fence which incorporates public-facing metal art.

We started working on the site! Leveled the foundation, finalized the design, bought materials, and will have some great progress to show later this week!

Urban Rooftop Aquaponic Garden

This team will be making headway on getting a new rooftop hydroponic garden prototype installed and working for the sake of testing and refining the design.

The game is to solicit input from a structural engineer to work out requirements and constraints for any weight issues.

If feasible, find a rooftop to actually install the rooftop.  If now, find a different space to do the pilot test.

I reached out to an architect friend who does permitting for industrial properties - conversation imminent!

We are currently looking for a structural engineer to help verify the plausibility of this project. In addition we are hoping to find building owners who are willing to explore the idea of setting up our beta module on their roof. We are also exploring the potential of using other under utilized space in the city. If you think you have a contact that might help with any of these pieces please feel free to reach out.

A senior guy in a Heavy hitting Seattle engineering firm is showing interest. If they throw ANY weight toward this, look out for the awesome.

Limbs for Sierra Leone

This team is out to collect 100 prosthetics by the 26th, and will do so by contacting the largest orthopedic clinics and individual physicians in search of prosthetic donations.

Building Businesses and Changing Lives

This team is out to head-on raise part or even all of the $60K it will take to create Ventures new programming.

Over the three weeks they'll be hosting a fundraising event and as well finding coaches that will donate money they receive from consulting to the organization.

We are planning our fundraiser at the Bennett’s house. Tomorrow we are visiting their home to discuss event logistics and then we will work on the invitations and guest list.

Asylum Short Film

This team will be organizing and putting on an event at the Columbia Tower Club to have a trailer viewing and discussion group with the film's creators.

The game is to have it attended by 100 people, and from those attendees raise part or all of the $16K needed to bring the film to fruition.

Tiny House Village

The game during these 3 weeks is to build a media campaign to increase community awareness of the Nickelsville Tiny House Village project, as a precursor to more involvement, volunteerism and donations around the project.

We are working on community outreach material! So lucky to have people with great skills in language and visual content helping to create material that will be though provoking and eye catching! First step materials, next step community outreach!

We have gotten 2 media contact buzzing about the project and are connecting them with people in the organization to drumm up more headlines. And we even have a council member potentially wanting to jump in and support. The support continues to build and we have just barely gotten started!

Guerilla Style Homeless Food Drive

This team will be gathering up a group of participants to make and deliver lunches directly to the homeless in Seattle.

The scale of this is yet to be determined but the game is to be as big as can be managed.
